چکیده
It is well known that shot-peer&g treatment increases the fatigue resistance of metals. It is considered that this effect is caused by compressive residual stresses arising in the treated surface. Usually the mean value of residual stress is taken into consideration to explain this phenomenon but the real residual stress state must be inhomogeneous due to the inhomogeneous character of deformation around the shot-peening indentation and due to the rough character of the shot-peened surface. In the present paper the following investigations were undertaken to analyse the inhomogeneity of the residual stress state after shot-peening: 1. Residual stress measurements at the bottom and top of a Brine11 indentation, simulating a shot-peer&g indentation, were made with local X-ray diffraction. 2. The measurements of residual stresses in the peaks of roughness of a shot-peened surface were carried out. The experimental results permit the explanation of the specific character of the residual stress distribution in the surface layer after shot-peening. 3. Analysis of the specific behaviour of residual stress depending on a removed surface layer at the initial stage of the stress distribution curve.

X-RAY ANALYSIS OF RESIDUAL STRESS DISTRIBUTION IN WELD REGION, J.T. Assis, V. Monin, J.R. Teodosio, T. Gurova, pp. 225-231
Distribution of residual stresses arising after welding is quite complex and inhomogeneous. Many factors have influence on the magnitude and the profile of the stress distribution curve. In the present paper an x-ray technique was used to analyze the residual stress distribution in steel sheets jointed by industrial welding with linear or circular weld seams. Interpretation of experimental resu...

متن کاملStudy and Simulation of Shot peening Effect on Fatigue Life of a Powder Forged Connecting rod
Shot peening applies a residual compressive stress field (RCSF) on the surface of parts. It also shifts “crack nucleation sites” to sub-surface locations. A nondestructive method of measuring the stresses, Sin2ψ was utilized here and the stress values introduced to Ansys software. For this purpose, uniform stress in all directions was applied on the con rod. Loading on the rod in Ansys had thre...
متن کاملFatigue Life of Repaired Welded Tubular Joints
In this study, the effect of repair on fatigue life of tubular joints is investigated. Six cracked specimens precedently subjected to fatigue loading undergone to weld repair. Two of those specimens were shot peened before primary fatigue loading. It is shown that repair gives rise to about 150% increase in fatigue life for original specimens while the increase of fatigue life for shot-peened ...
متن کاملInfluence of Residual Stress on Fatigue Life of Hot Forged and Shot Blasted Steel Components
Hot forging is a common manufacturing process for the production of large quantities of engineering components. Residual stresses are developed in forged components as a result of various aspects of the manufacturing process, including subsequent cooling, and heat treatment. Residual stresses can significantly affect the deformation and fatigue failure of materials. Hot forged EN15R steel bars ...
